Flowers are among the most beautiful creations of nature. No important event happens without them. A beautiful bouquet awakes a whole range of feelings, makes you excited, brings back pleasant memories. But this beauty is evanescent and can fade quickly. And you long for this pleasure to linger! How can you do this?
In order to understand this you need to define the reasons why crop flowers fade so quickly. The main reason is thrombosis in the place of the cutoff caused by air bubbles. That is why the plant stops pulling water from the vase and the flower cannot live without water and fades. Hence comes the easy but the most effective way to keep flowers longer. You need to change the water in the vase every day and make fresh cutoffs 2-3 cm shorter. The time between cutting the stems and putting them into the vase with water should be minimal, it's even better to cut them underwater. You can take cold water from the tab, besides most crop flowers, including roses, need much water, that is why the vase should be filled to the brim.
The second main enemy of crop flowers after air bubbles is heat. It also dries the plants and prevents them from living long. The colder the place where the bouquet stands the longer it stays fresh. The best storage temperature for most flowers is ca. +7 °C. In a living-room there can't be such temperature but you can take the bouquet away from sun rays in summer or far from heating devices in winter, and at the night you can put it into a cold place.
These easy methods alone are enough to prolong the life of crop flowers immensely. If you have bought, say, roses and put them into a deep vase with water and then daily at least once a day you changed the water in the vase and cut the stems, at the temperature of +20 °C the roses should stand not less than a week. If they don't it means that the roses bought weren't fresh. In fact, a week is a minimal time. With such care, fresh roses can last up to a month and please you with their beauty.
Nowadays it is popular to use different agents to prolong the life of crop flowers which are added into the vase with water. These are mostly agents based on chrisal. In some flower salons they even stick a small bag of these agents to expensive bouquets. But a bag like that will hardly help prolong the life of the bouquet. It says that it is enough for 0,5 litres of water, i.e. this bag can be enough for a small bouquet of May lilies put in a tiny vase. For a big bouquet it won't be of any help, unless you use several bags like that whose amount you can count according to the size of the vase. What also makes you doubt is the "moral side" of this free attachment to a bouquet. When I get a bouquet with a bag like that attached to it I start to think that the presenter hints: "I present you with an expensive bouquet, take care of it and keep it as long as possible." I don't feel excited about the present any more, and it should be vice versa.
In the end I can't help mentioning one more important way to keep a bouquet fresh. A person's biofield also influences flowers, hence in the house where the atmosphere is peaceful crop flowers stay much longer than in the house with negative atmosphere. I wish you with all my heart that in your house there are always beautiful flowers and unforgettable bouquets!
